Why this bag
The long-haul workhorse. Expands 60 to 80 litres and ships with three separate dry bags.
There is a point on every long ride where your luggage stops being a purchase and starts being a decision you have to live with. Usually it is day three, in the rain, looking for a dry shirt.
The Wanderlust Rear Bag is built around that moment. It expands from 60 to 80 litres, so one bag handles both a weekend and a fortnight. And it ships with three separate dry bags rather than one, which sounds like a small thing until you are unpacking at a guest house in Spiti and can pull out exactly what you need without spreading everything across the bed.
The shell is 1000D polyester, the zippers are YKK weather-sealed, and a full rain cover goes over the top when the sky opens. Three layers of defence, because on Indian roads you are not choosing between rain and dust, you are getting both.
The base is anti-slip and padded so it will not scuff your seat or paint, and quick-release buckles mean the bag is off the bike in under a minute when you reach the hotel.
What matters
Three dry bags, not one
Most rear bags give you a single liner. This ships with three, so clean kit, wet kit and electronics never share a compartment. Pull one out at the hotel instead of unpacking the whole bag.
60 to 80 litres on demand
Run it compressed for a weekend and expand it for a two-week expedition. One bag covers both instead of forcing you to buy two.
1000D polyester shell
The same fabric weight used in military-spec packs. It resists abrasion from straps and panniers, and UV from long days in open sun.
Sealed against Indian monsoon
YKK weather-sealed zippers, a full rain cover over the top, and dry bags underneath. Three layers between your kit and the weather.

Questions riders ask
Do I need a rear rack?
No. It straps to the pillion seat and grab rails. A rack makes it more stable on rough ground and is worth having if you tour loaded, but it is not required.
Rear bag or saddle bag?
A rear bag sits high behind you and carries bulk. Saddle bags hang either side and keep weight low, which handles better. Most tourers run both. If you are buying one, start with the rear bag for volume.
What is the difference between this and the Countryman Tail Bag 72L?
The Wanderlust Rear Bag expands to 80 L and includes three dry bags. The Countryman 72L is a fixed 72 L, simpler, and costs less. Buy Wanderlust if you want the organisation and the extra volume.
Will it survive a Ladakh run?
That is the trip it was built for. 1000D shell, sealed zips, reflective strips for the night sections. Tighten the straps at every fuel stop, which is true of any soft luggage.
